I am a proud mum of 4 beautiful children ranging in age from 26 to 14 whom I raised as a single mum after leaving an abusive relationship. My journey into nursing was inspired by the amazing nurses who I worked with whilst caring for my mum who died from early onset dementia in 2018 and I embarked on my journey just a few months after her passing. I have worked on ward 18 at the RVI a neuro and trauma critical care unit since qualifying and am deeply passionate about my patients their families and my amazing colleagues. Shortly into my career on ward 18, I suffered a traumatic event that triggered a mental health crisis and I contacted the ward sister whom I was closest to for support. I was pathwayed to support from the unit's clinical psychologist and my colleagues and on my return to work became heavily involved in work on wellbeing on the unit. I’d like to share some of the impact of that work with as many people as I can to raise awareness of its vital importance in a healthy team.
