The conference will also address the challenges of implementing sustainable practices across the NHS and how these efforts align with the NHS’s goal of becoming a net-zero healthcare system by 2040.     After studying for a Masters in Sustainability and Management at Royal Holloway, Addie became ABHI's first Sustainability Executive, joining the Association in 2022 to lead on this critical agenda. 

    Addie provides support to the membership and works with stakeholders to ensure the role of sustainability within HealthTech is recognised. In managing ABHI's Sustainability Group, Addie is helping the industry to tackle the opportunities and challenges that exist on such a complex topic.

As a lead IBD and Endometriosis Surgeon, I provide specialist support to the West Midland Endometriosis Society and Birmingham Women's & Children's Hospital. I am passionate advocate for sustainability, working closely with the Green Team within the TRUST to drive sustainable healthcare practices. Committed to the NHS Net Zero goal,I actively empower colleagues to integrate sustainability into their practice, their patient care and hospital operations and policies. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we can make healthcare greener and more sustainable for future generations

Main activities include creating the Trust’s Green Plan, carbon analysis and reporting, helping Procurement introduce sustainability measures into the supply chain, and facilitating the installation of EV charging infrastructure to support the Trust’s growing fleet of electric vehicles.

Speakers will discuss the role of supply chain transparency, ethical sourcing, and circular economy principles in NHS procurement. Attendees will gain insights into current NHS sustainability policies and learn practical steps to integrate sustainability into purchasing decisions. This panel will highlight how smarter procurement can reduce environmental impact while maintaining high standards of care and cost efficiency.

    For the past three years, I have been immersed in the role of Regional Greener NHS Lead for NHS Kent & Medway, where I've spearheaded the organisation's journey toward achieving ambitious 'net zero' targets. My expertise lies in navigating complex systems, fostering collaboration across sectors, and implementing sustainable practices that reduce environmental impact while enhancing patient outcomes. This involves championing green spaces, promoting biodiversity, minimising fossil fuel use and waste, ensuring sustainable procurement, and adapting estates for severe weather. Success in this role stems from a strong commitment to education, behavior enablement, and innovation, underpinned by compassionate leadership and effective stakeholder engagement.

     

    Building on this practical experience, I am currently pursuing a Master's degree at Teesside University to further specialise as a Sustainability Business Specialist. This academic pursuit allows me to deepen my understanding of sustainable business strategies and equip me with the latest knowledge to drive even greater positive change within the NHS.

    Alexandra Hammond Associate Director, Net Zero and Sustainable Procurement NHS England

    In my role at NHS England, I am responsible for the delivery of supply chain decarbonisation across the NHS's 80,000 suppliers, and work with the supply chain, NHS Trusts, and the wider system to deliver meaningful change. In addition to working towards net zero carbon, the work I lead seeks to stamp out modern slavery in the healthcare supply chain, as well as deliver social value and ensure local communities benefit from health care spend.
    I am a confident and strategic sustainability and net zero carbon specialist who has led on embedding net zero and sustainable development across several organisations, including the South East London Integrated Care System (ICS), Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and the health system of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

    I am a persuasive communicator with expertise in strategy development and execution, heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency, including framework development for the acceleration of zero carbon technologies, circular economy, sustainable purchasing, social value, legislation and policy as well as carbon literacy.

Fifteen years of which were spent in managing United Nations agencies funded health and other development projects in both urban and rural communities. I am highly skilled in conceptualising and developing programmes and projects which led to consultancies with among others the World Bank - Economic Development Institute. I have produced project proposals and business cases which were funded by both International and National funding agencies

    Dr Clare Winter Head of Sustainability Northumbria Healthcare NHS

    Clare is a Chartered Environmentalist with almost 20 years’ environmental sustainability experience. This has ranged from private sector environmental consultancy roles to working at Northumbria Police leading on their environmental compliance and initial sustainability journey. She is currently the Head of Sustainability at Northumbria Healthcare, providing strategic leadership in the pursuit of net zero across the Trust.
