    Angus created the Faculty of Health Informatics at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000 and was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Health Informatics (FHI) from 2000 to 2005. During his appointment the Faculty introduced a “Master’s Degree in Health Informatics” initially with the RCSEd partnering with Bath University and later with Edinburgh University. During his 5-year appointment he also introduced the eLogbook for surgical training initially into Orthopaedic Surgery but later to cover all surgical training in the UK and Ireland. He was one of the 4-person team who developed the initial version of the eLogbook.

     

    As Professor of Orthopaedic & Accident Surgery in Nottingham for 30 years his special interest was Shoulder & Elbow Surgery. He was one of 4 Founding Members of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) set up in 1987, BESS President (2001-3) and President of the International Conference of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (Edinburgh 2010). He has published over 350 research and academic papers on Orthopaedic Surgery, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Informatics (most peer-reviewed).

     

    After the closure of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics, Angus and 5 colleagues conceived UK Digital Health and Care (UKDHC) that was set up in February 2024 and became active in April 2024. The first 6 months of UKDHC are summarised in “UK Digital Health and Care: The Phoenix arising from the ashes of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics”

    David has considerable international consulting experience including in the UAE, Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, UK, and Cambodia.
    His consulting work has included: governance reviews, strategic planning, organisational restructures, and business re-engineering for many clients in the Asia 
    Pacific and Middle East. He was Director of Health for the Bahrain Economic Development Board, facilitating their Vision 2030 and Director and adviser for 
    Quality for the Bahrain Defence Force Medical Services.


    David has been an expert evaluator on health programs (Horizon 2020) for the European Commission and a member of the Expert Group on quality improvement of health systems with the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua). He has undertaken international consultancies on behalf of the WHO including developing a quality framework for tertiary hospitals (882) in Iran.


    More recently he has been advising healthcare companies in Europe, the Asia Pacific region in the pursuit of making a positive impact on the quality of care through the effective use of technology to improve collaboration between providers and within institutions.

    Professor Cullington is a Clinical Scientist at the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service in the United Kingdom; the centre offers hearing implants to deaf adults and children of all ages.  She is captivated by cochlear implants and the use of technology to improve people’s lives.  She has worked for 30 years in six cochlear implant centres around the world, and completed her PhD at University of California, Irvine.

    Professor Cullington is committed to developing tools to empower people with cochlear implants to manage their own care at home. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Cochlear Implants International, and was previously Chair of the British Cochlear Implant Group.
