    Andy Wilkins
Andy Wilkins Founder Future of Health

A thought leader, systems thinker and speaker on the international conference circuit where I present and consult on a wide range of human-centred topics including re-thinking health and care for the 21st Century, value creation and re-thinking policy and strategy in a customer experience age.

We stand at the dawn of the greatest changes in science, medicine and technology the world has ever witnessed. Digital technology and the data that flows from it is encroaching more deeply and intimately into every corner of our lives providing organisations with more opportunities and power to create value but also undermine our freedom, privacy and agency. Meanwhile individuals and society are feeling more alienated, distrusting and anxious about the new world we are creating, the institutions that serve them and the growing inequalities this is producing. We need new thinking and new ideas.

A new consciousness is emerging in which individuals and society are seeking better answers to how organisations and institutions can help us all to live more prosperous and meaningful lives . Organisations and leaders are under pressure to meet this new challenge while also having to contend with the fact that many of the historical certainties, assumptions & management models are no longer fit for purpose.

The starting point for this a recognition that a new compact is needed between people and the private, public and community sector organisations that serve them. Key to this is an understanding of VALUE EXCHANGE and how an organisation can create value for all its stakeholders

I undertake speaking and consulting engagements to private and public sector organisations on a range of tactical and strategic projects relating to creating value for the customers they serve.

A generalist (and proud of it!) I am looking for interesting projects either in leadership positions or as a strategic advisor/ consultant to assist organisations in their pursuit of business growth & success!

    Nigel Roberts
Nigel Roberts Deputy Assistant Director of Nursing Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust

I commenced my career in the National Health Service (NHS) in 1996 at Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Royal Hospital (CNDRH) as a Theatre Support worker. After being there for a short while I successfully applied for the ODP training and qualified in 1998. After qualifying, I stayed at CNDRH for a short period prior to leaving and working as a locum for a number of years. In 2005, I took a permanent position as a Senior ODP in cardio-thoracic at the Northern General Hospital (NGH), in Sheffield. Over the proceeding years, I was promoted to Clinical Procurement Specialist and then finally Theatre Manager. Whilst at the NGH I had a shift in my career towards safety, risk, and medical equipment. In April 2016, I commenced my employment at the Royal Derby Hospital as the theatre lead. During my employment, we went through a merger with Queens Hospital Burton to become UHDB. In 2021, my job role changed to concentrate more on Quality, Risk and Safety and this is what led me to commence a PhD.

I am passionate about patient safety in the operating theatres and trying to understand why harm and never events still occur is something that interests me a great deal. Since July 2021, when I commenced my studies, I have published three articles. The articles were on the following subjects,

    • Safer Surgical Checklist – Literature review, The Operating Theatre Journal, November 2021, 374, 3
    • Never event audit at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton following Covid-19, The Operating Theatre Journal, January 2022, 376
    • LocSSIPs – An audit of NHS England Hospital Trust operating theatres, The Operating Theatre Journal, Due 15 March 2022

During my career I also have worked as a specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission.

    Dr Emma Wheatley
Dr Emma Wheatley Consultant in Intensive Care And Anaesthesia Bolton NHS FT

I am a consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia. I worked through the height of the pandemic with my colleagues. We had to support each other during some very difficult times. I am also a ILM level 7 trained coach and mentor. The well-being of staff is extremely important to me as staff who feel well supported will work better and make less errors. I am the well-being lead for the department and work with several colleagues to provide peer support within the department. I also run a group to support colleagues after clinical incidents – so they feel heard and hopefully do not become second victims. In my free time I try hard to maintain my own well-being – “practice what you preach”
